The St. Magdalener at the South Tyrolean Vernatsch Cup 2017

Between tradition and innovation

Fresh, fine, versatile. For the 14th South Tyrolean Vernatsch Cup an international committee with famous wine journalists announced the winners of the award “Vernatsch wine of the year”, which were chosen among 95 participating wines. In total, 3 St. Magdalener wines won 4 prizes. In particular, the winery Kellerei Bozen not only was awarded in both sections “tradition” and “innovation”, but also its “St. Magdalener classic Moar 2015” was declared public’s favourite wine.

Among the news of this edition, the split of the award into two categories. On one hand, the category “tradition” represented the classic, good Vernatsch wine, which is easy to drink, elegant and young. On the other hand, the category “Innovation” included those Vernatsch wines, which want to explore new territories, having a good aging potential and an individual and complex character, also marked by their terroirs.

  • Südtirol St. Magdalener classico 2016 – Stefan Ramoser, Fliederhof

Vernatsch wine of the year 2017 – Innovation:

  • Südtirol St. Magdalener Moar 2015 – Kellerei Bozen

Public’s favourite 2017:
