St. Magdalener in Rome
Wine Guide Awards 2021
10. December 2020

On Monday, 8th May, a tasting event dedicated to the classic St. Magdalener wines took place in the historic Trimani Wine bar in Rome.

On the occasion of its 100th anniversary, the Consortium for the protection of St. Magdalener wine organised a special event together with the renowned Italian wine guide DoctorWine: the producers personally presented their current St. Magdalener wines; at the same time, the visitors were invited to three masterclasses that were all about the ageing potential of St. Magdalener wines – led by the two well-known wine journalists Daniele Cernilli and Dario Cappelloni.

St. Magdalener is one of the most traditional wines of South Tyrol, as its 100th anniversary also proves. “This wine is characterized by a high drinkability, which is a very modern aspect” underlines Daniele Cernilli, director of DoctorWine, and goes on to say “today’s public, especially the young people, want wines that are easy to drink. The time of very heavy wines is over. The St. Magdalener is an elegant, agile and crisp wine.”

The visitors were also enthusiastic about the quality of the wines and the facets that were revealed by the different zones, altitudes and vintages. “The Masterclass was a wonderful affirmation for me, a delicious, immediate, gastronomic wine that surprised me with its longevity,” said one wine lover. “This was a unique experience for me, a full immersion into the world of St. Magdalener, which I enjoyed very much because I had the opportunity to see all the different facets. It is a transparent wine, with beautiful, well-integrated tannins” said another.

Conclusion of the afternoon: a successful event that introduced the Romans to the classic South Tyrolean St. Magdalener and made them curious for more.
